Pirates of Port Royal/ Giamaica

As you can see on the map (Wikipedia), we remain in the Caribbean sea in this second part of our travel in search of pirates and treasures. The first post I wrote about the Turtle Island near Haiti (there is at least one Turtle island more, I told you), the capital of pirates in XVII century.

This city was a center of shipping commerce, had a very comfortable harbour and it was situated near the main routs of the Spanish and French commercial ships. After the pirates of Turtle Island left it and came in Port Royal, this city became definitely "the Sodom of the New World". There were probably more drinking houses than persons there, and the life was "Wine and Women".

It's enough, therefore, to walk through the city to inspire the air of adventure.

Do you know, what is interesting? When I looked for the staff to write this post, I wanted to add here a picture that corrisponds the traditional immagination we have about the pirats. I made a list of the most known names of the pirats of that times and looked for their portraits. And I did not find them. The contemporal pictures of these characters are "normal citizens". Maybe with the face a little to... but there are many persons with faces inspiring fear. So, nothing pirat images. Only this beautiful vessel.

How a Traveller Can Use Web Directories

My blog is maybe too full of different destinations to visit, and you find rarely articles with suggestions to make the life of a traveller easier. So, I'll tell you how to find your best deal using a web directory today.

Those are sites collecting informations about all the sides of the life. They have many categories, and all the sites are divided to make the research as easy as possible. It's enough to write the keyword to open the lists. For example, if we write "vacation", we find "vacation destination listings" or "cruise ships" or "travel reservation" etc to choose from. I found agencies selling tickets this way. Than there are all the interesting offers of organized trips.

You would say, it's the same than other search engines. Not properly. Because the search engines give you too much unuseful information, and sometimes you need time to find what you need. From other side, free web directory gives possibility to be noticed to many internet users, bloggers and others. Web directories are visited by great number of persons. They lead traffic to the blogs and help us to be more known in this infinite world.

Web directories are not only simple lists. They offer any help to the visitors. The business.com
has expert guides and users can ask questions. I like to read this collection of answers. It's a good source of ideas, when I don't find inspiration to write, too. In this site you find even business advises. An interesting article I found, for example, tells how to save money when you travel. So, there are many things to learn there.

Other interesting directory is BOTW including local search and blog search. This site offers only links and site descriptions. By the way, it's good to add the address of our blogs to these directories.

Looking for Pirates and Treasures

With this ost I want to begin the exploration of the places connected with Pirates. It's clear, the first step has to be in the direction of their capital. Ane the capital of pirates was Île de la Tortue, island Tortuga in Caribbean sea, a part of Haiti.

The name means "Turtle Island" and is so because the same island is similar to a tortoise.
Because it was the major center of Caribbean piracy, the island is very famous now among the tourists that like to visit it. Well, this means probably the prices have to be "special", but I did not find information about it in other sites and do not know anybody, who just visited this paradise.

By the way, the first photo is from the other Turtle Island, in Venezuela. But I thought, the landscapes have to be similar. More or less.

What is interesting, the Franch governors had nothing against the corsars because thought, they protect the territory from other, maybe more dangerous enemies. And maybe they were right.

Many persons go there looking for treasures of the pirates. I did not find notices that somebody found them. It means, we can be those fortunate, if we go there! :0)

What is Kizhi?

Кижи

Some days ago I began to write about the antique Russian church architecture. You can remember these 2 posts The Golden Ring of Russia, Russian Churches Of XII Century
where I told about very interesting examples of wooden churches and wanted to write some posts about them.

The first place is entire island -national park, Kizhi, in Karelia Russia, in front of Finnland, where you can see not only churches but different types of houses too. The church on the photo is made without nails, the pieces were made so, that they take one other.

Unfortunatelly, the church is not every day open for tourist to protect precious icons. But the visit is interesting in any case for the walk you can make through the park. And you can visit houses of the population (with guide) too.

Interesting is that all that buildings are real. They were disassembled, taken on the island and assembled once more.

Island Vacation | Anguilla Caribbean Islands

Anguilla is a 16-mile-long coral formation created by a geologic uplift which created numerous bays, salt ponds and the beautiful beaches we see today. The earliest inhabitants were Amerindians. Their tools, discovered on the northeast part of the island, date to 1300 BC. By the sixth century, large villages were occupied in what are now Rendezvous Bay and Sandy Ground. The Anguilla Archeological & Historical Society has unearthed thousands of artifacts, some of which can be seen at the Heritage Collection in East End

The first Europeans arrived around 1564 and were part of a French expedition. At this time the island was given its name meaning "eel" because of its elongated form. The British settled here in 1650. The dry climate did not lend itself to farming and eventually the inhabitants turned to the sea, becoming shipbuilders, sailors and fishermen. Today watersports are one of the main attractions of the island. Diving, snorkeling and sailboat racing are enjoyed by islanders and visitors alike.

The local government, concerned with retaining the island's natural resources and inherent beauty, has kept growth to a slow pace and therefore not allowed casinos (although there is still development - Anguilla's first 18 hole golf course is scheduled to open late in 2006). You will find the surroundings peaceful, the service superb and the people friendly. The island is known as a retreat for celebrities, and is sometimes called the "South Beach" of the Caribbean - a major draw being the myriad of fine dining spots - you won't leave Anguilla hungry.

Ohhh Tenerife...

My friend told me once about the vacations they want to organize this month in Tenerife. Her husband has a cousin and this has a little house there. So, when his wife goes home to visit her parents they want to stay with him. My friend was just there and what she tells about that vacation is only "Ohhh!!!!! Tene-riiifeeee..."

I have to confess, I thought it's in Caribean sea. Ehhh what you want -I've heard the word but did not know more. If you re so ignorant as me, I have to say you, it's an island in Atlantic Ocean belonging to Canarian islands belonging to Spain.

Here I post some photos so that we, all together can begin to dream about it.

Edinburgh Is Number One For Romance

Once in the year, there is a special period, when every relationship can fly up. Even if you have problems with your partner, this period is the best time for getting it right. I write about the Valentine's Day. Book your Edinburgh accommodation -and forget about the noisy reality.

Make an unusual treat to your partner and pass a romantic weekend in Edinburgh. This city is very special because it brings romance in people, who knows why. It can be for the cobbled streets and interesting pubs Or the striking castle gives out the emanations of special energy. It is possible that the spirit of Mary, Queen of Scots, appeals to all couples in love...

Get lyrical, inspire the air of romance and feel loved up by this magic place. There were thousands of writters, poets and painters that did it before you. It's enough to think about it and plan your trip remembering the possibilities of nightlife too. Edinburgh accommodation can be choosed not far from the places of your main interest. From there you can visit theaters or partecipate on cruises for example.

Don't forget your Valentine's dinner. There are many romantic settings where you will find not only relaxed atmosphere and memorable meal. Restaurants offer special Valentine's Menu, it's clear. There are champagne testings and great wine lists. But the most interesting is the locally sourced Brittish and Scottish food. When you plan your romantic weekend, search for great chefs and dedicated places. You go away in Edinburgh to taste THAT life, so enjoy this great event.

For those who like shopping there are many attractions too. There are businesses that suit all your needs, where you can find absolutely unique and bespoke gifts in air of romance. Allow that all thiscreate a special atmosphere and feel loved up by the life.
